A decree-law was published on November 24th extending all visas – including tourist visas – until the 30th of June 2024. This is a clear indication that the government is well aware of the extensive backlog and waiting list of family reunions, highly qualified workers, students, and other residency processes.
This means the permanence of citizens with an expired visa in Portugal is within the legal migratory framework, however only applicable in Portuguese territory. If a person in this situation leaves the Country, this extension will be considered terminated.
